Cairns

Cairns is the major centre of North Queensland, a tropical region that is home to the Great Barrier Reef, the largest marine park in the world. Founded in 1876 as the port for inland goldfields, it is now an international gateway to North Queensland.

Cairns has a population of approximately 100,000 and the region offers a healthy and relaxed lifestyle generated through tourism, agriculture, manufacturing, mining and fishing industries.

To begin the journey, the Cairns International Airport offers Australian and International visitors a first point of entry, and transport from the airport to hotels is readily available to begin your fun filled holiday.

Where it happens? The Esplanade in Cairns is the centre of town and here you can find restaurants, cafes, markets, shopping arcades, nightclubs and pubs. As well, the Esplanade is where you will leave for island and reef cruises and tours.

Go Exploring! Cairns is surrounded North, West and South by awe inspiring rainforest, most of which is world heritage listed, and to the East is the Coral Sea and Great Barrier Reef. Things to do and see in the region include swimming at the beach or a cool, clear rock pool, snorkelling, diving, fishing, hot air ballooning, white water rafting, bushwalking or simply taking in the wonderous sights. Take a drive out of town and visit Port Douglas, Kuranda, Mossman Gorge and the Nandroya Falls.
